California on FIRE!

The first picture is from the shore of Mission Viejo Lake which many of you have passed as you drove up Alicia Parkway to our house from the I-5 freeway. The next one is of the reservoir behind our church building where neighbors watched helicopters constantly filling water tanks to fight the fires for days! The last one is taken from the parking lot at the Oakley Headquarters where many of our friends and church members work and is just down the parkway from our house!

As you saw on the news, Southern California was covered in smoke over the last two weeks of October (we are still getting ash on our cars now). What a lot of you might not have realized was just how close the fire got to our very own home! My heart goes out to those who lost all they had in these fires! I had a small taste of what they might be feeling as I walked out my front door Monday night, October 22nd, to see bright orange flames in the hills above my little city! We actually had friends staying with us who had been evacuated from San Diego and were unable to return home for 3 days--just watching the news and checking the internet every night to see if their home was in the growing 'burn zone'. I learned a lot about the nature of fire & evacuation procedures during those two weeks, both from the news and from my Dad, (Ashland Fire Chief ;0), who was a constant source of comfort & wisdom--especially for the 2 days Chris was out of town! The most important thing I learned is that we do need to listen and obey our church leaders who counsel us to 'be prepared' for any emergency. I think by living here in California I am going to get more than my share of disasters (think earthquakes, mudslides, terrorist threats) so we'd better be ready!

A very Mousey Halloween!

Mom made these cutest Minnie Mouse costumes for the girls for Halloween so Carter and Mom had to be mice too! (Too bad we couldn't talk Chris into wearing the ears too!) Mom also made each child a monogrammed Trick-or-treat bag this year which were a HUGE hit so no one had to worry that anyone else was eating their candy! ;0)

Carter Turns 2!!

This is the SMILE that I missed so bad I could cry during our Asia trip!

As you can see, Carter loved his 'ghost bday cookie' and I think only his dad missed having the cake!

Primary Program & Flowers from Grandpa!

As all mothers know, it takes a lot of work to get three little ones fed, cleaned, dressed, packed, and prepped for our annual Children's Primary Program at church! So I thought I'd better take a picture before it all got undone....which it did shortly after. Madison had stripped her sweater off and laid it over her head before the first musical number was over! (And yes, she was sitting on the front row of the stand!) Luckily, my Dad had surprised me with flowers earlier in the week so I couldn't feel too sorry for myself and my mothering shortcomings...

Video from Top of Great Wall

(FYI--So sorry but you will need to click on volume button in bottom left corner of Asia slide show to turn off music so you can hear voices on this video)

Chris's Korean Intro for me....can you guess what he is saying?

Our Beautiful Doll...

Yes, the one you hear singing loudly and off-key is our little star, Madison Rose. She made sure that sweet little girl came up with her everytime to sing their 'solos'. Entertainment at its best....

Small Town America....gotta love it!

This time it was Chris's turn to take the kids for motorcycle rides on Grandpa's bikes! Chris and I even got to take a ride ourselves for a dinner date in Ashland while mom and dad watched the kids--what fun! Chris had never been to Crater Lake so mom braved the all-day event and toured our Johnson family out there and it was beautiful! We also loved seeing Romeo and Juliet in the special Shakespeare Outdoor Theater in Ashland-thanks mom & dad for the hot date! The highlight for our family though, was the Class 3 raft trip (not too scary for the kiddos) down the Rogue River with Ryan and Jenni and their family. We even took little Carter boy and he LOVED it!

Madie Rose's Minnie Mouse Birthday

Only in Southern California....would a 5 year old be able to spend her birthday at Disneyland with 4 cousins and 5 of her closest friends (and their moms too of course, we didn't want to lose any of them)!!! A special thanks to Grandma Woodley for making the BEST Minnie Mouse costume in Disneyland! The only bummer was that it was at least 95 degrees (in the shade) that day so as you can see the costumes didn't last long, but the lollipops and Minnie Mouse dolls were a hit! And meeting Minnie Mouse and riding Pirates of the Caribbean (twice!) with all her friends were highlights for Madison! For her birthday, Madison asked for a 3 foot tall plastic horse (Target shoppers beware) but somehow we swindled her into liking this red wagon that has already had many miles put on it!

Fun Family Outings this Summer

After many months of polling friends and family to see if ANYONE else had yet to see Wicked, I finally talked Eric and Megan into doubling with Chris and I at the Pantages Theater in LA this summer. It was better than I had even hoped! Of course we all had to get the soundtrack the next day! We owe it all to Ryan, Jenni and one of my favorite babysitters who were all willing to stay home that night with 7 kids under 7!! Yikes!

We also got to have special guests at Madison and Kennidy's last Kids R Music performance of the summer, they were so happy to see their aunt and uncles and cousins in the crowd!

Favorite Beach Memories this summer....

Todd & Heidi Roberts joined us for a 4th of July Smore Fest on the beach, the kids loved it and it was so dark no one could see the marshmellow messes! ;0)

Kennidy and Madison both learned the joys of 'body boarding the white wash' this summer with their dad, but I worry because Chris just keeps taking them farther and farther out! Here is one with Ryan and Halle getting some waves too!

Martin & Rosamonde Johnson Family Reunion 2007

It seems that the last 3 months of our lives and our Johnson parents' lives have been focused on this one VERY important weekend in the Johnson family. From June 28th-30th, about 120 Johnson relatives gathered here in Orange County from as far away as Japan and as close as San Diego for a Johnson Family Reunion. They all came to join in a beach-going, pool-loving, bounce house-jumping, face-painting, water game-playing, food-eating EXTRAVAGANZA!! It all went by too fast so here are a few pictures to remember it by....

"Kids Are Music" is the name of the group...

Grandpa and Grandma Johnson were also there to cheer our girls on as they performed at a local retirement home with their summer singing group "Kids are Music". There are tons of great things about this non-profit children's performing group that we joined for the summer--learning to give service to the elderly, learning to perform in front of large groups of new faces, memorizing songs and dance moves...but their all-time favorite part is definitely the costume and props! Kennidy loves the red and white pom poms and Madison loves to wave her American Flag (especially when no one else is). I will try and put some video footage on later this summer...

Something Fun to share with Grandparents....

The best part about having Grandpa and Grandma Johnson come early for the Family Reunion is that they were able to see Kennidy and Madison perform in their Dance Recitals. The girls were so excited to have special family guests in the audience!! See below where I posted a video clip of Kennidy's tap performance--Life is a highway!

We're ready to go off to Kindergarten...

Madison's preschool graduation was unforgettable to say the least. She looked so cute in her little cap and her performance during the closing song was....well it was 100% Madie Rose!

Red Ripe Strawberries and the Big Hungry Bear...

Carter boy was hilarious at the Strawberry Patch field trip we went on with Madison's preschool class. He couldn't get enough of them and was actually pretty good at finding AND eating the ripe red ones! He just wasn't going to share his 'Big Red Ripe Strawberry' with anyone!

Life is a Highway....

This was Kennidy's favorite Tap Number from her Spring Recital. Kennidy is the 4th one from the left or the tallest one in the middle. She definitely gets her dance moves from her dad! ;0)

There's no place like home...

Carter and I just returned from an adventurous weekend in Ashland. I love going home because there are some things that never change--Strawberries from the Garden, Soaking in the Hot Tub and Riding on the Hot Rods!! There are also always a few surprises waiting for you in Ashland! I went to Ashland to Hear Dad Speak and ended up getting the opportunity to speak myself! I even tried hiding in the back of the Stake Center but it didn't work, I had to make the long death march to the stand (Carter in tow), in front of 900 people I haven't seen in years! Also, on this trip I was told multiple times that I looked exactly like my dad which is something I haven't heard often, but now to tell you the truth after seeing this picture of us--I have to agree!

Home Improvement 101...

Step #1--Paint the outside of your house--It feels BRAND NEW and costs 100 times less than a new home!!
Step #2--Stick to the experts' color palates--Black Doors ROCK! (no one else in neighborhood had it, but I love it!)
(p.s. that cute little boy in front of door is Carter Boy in his blue converse shoes that are making all the girls CRAZY!)
Step #3--Never EVER buy plaid couches, but if you do, NEVER put them with a floral print--see our new and improved Front room.
Step #4--Tell your husband it's like the show 'Design on a Dime' (just don't let him know how many dimes it will be....;0)

Youth Conference the O.C. way....

Here is the Yacht that our 455 youth (and lucky leaders like me ;0) took on a cruise of Long Beach Harbor while we ate, danced and partied the night away. I absolutely loved being with my Young Women again--especially my seniors like Annie and Janae who are leaving for college in the fall. I was also happy that this was one youth conference meal that I wasn't in charge of preparing, serving and cleaning for 555 people. (During this whole weekend affair, Chris was Mr. Mom again (I'm giving him lots of practice lately) and VERY busy painting our house---pictures to come soon!)

'Crafty' Kennidy--7 years old!

Kennidy planned her 7th Birthday Party all by herself from the guest list of 8 to the 5 craft activities to the 3 'gymnastics breaks'--right down to the tables full of treats, pizza and "Cookie Cakes" for dessert! Daddy, Madi, Carter and Kj's favorite young women were all there to help too!

Easter in 'George with Megs&Eric...and Johnny too!

Look at all those cute boys with their favorite babies! Here comes the Easter bunny....

Number One Laker Fan~Chris 'Magic' Johnson

Finally, after four years in California, Chris got his dream birthday gift--tickets to a Laker game! If only they had won.....;0)

Kj's Scrapbook Getaway!

Okay girls! So who is on the list for cruise 2008?? My friend Heather Clawson and I played all day and scrapped all night (well at least till 2am). And the daddies stayed home with the kiddos--Christopher "Mr. Mom-Extraordinaire".
